tag history

tag, founded by owner and principal, Norman Glassberg, has built a brand based on a formula consisting of equal parts...design, functionality, color and value!

Norman, an NYU graduate, started his career as a biochemist. After nine months in the lab, he hung up his lab coat when a friend introduced him to the decorative gift industry. Following this path, Norman spent the next three years as a Sales Rep and Sales Manager on the East Coast.

As careers take shape, Norman sought out his niche as one of the original partners of I.D.G. (International Designs Group), now known as Pottery Barn.

In 1975, Norman moved to Chicago and formed his own rep agency, tag (Trade Associates Group). It didn't take long for Norman to realize that the future of tag was bigger and brighter than his rep agency.

In 1976, Norman met two French women who manufactured novelty candles in Bordeaux, France. They offered him exclusive distribution in the USA...an offer he couldn't refuse. And just like that, tag wholesale was born.

Candles drove dollars and Norman quickly expanded into textiles. 30 years later, tag remains a leader in the textile business and was a pioneer in changing the focus of the business from a basic business to a fashion business. tag continues this leadership role today.

tag's history of success was further enhanced by our acquisition of Parallel Lines furniture now known as TFG(tag Furnishings Group) in 2006.

tag now manufacturers in over 9 countries and distributes to more than 30 countries with a strategy that covers more than 71 different product formats.

For 35 years tag has impacted the industry with good design, affordability, function and style.

"I like to think we're a company that is more than the sum of its parts. We sell textiles, candles, ceramics, glassware and housewares, but what we're really about is a look."
